A bit about contraception

I had an appointment today to get a contraceptive implant fitted in. I’ve been on the combined pill for three or four years now and although I’ve never really missed a pill, it gets slightly inconvenient to pause whatever you’re doing at X o’clock to take it.

The implant is more than 99% effective and it works for three years (or more). You can also have it removed at any time, and your natural fertility should return very quickly. There may be side effects, but in my opinion, they’re not better nor worse than the pill. Let’s see how it goes.

Like all contraceptives, the implant is completely free in the UK. The nurse that fitted mine, a lovely lady who’s been in sexual health for 20 years, was saying that the implant has been the only method that actually helped significantly reduce teenage and/or unwanted pregnancies in the country.
