A book that’s not yet published

I came across this book in a list of the most expected debuts for 2022. It’s perfect for my dissertation, but it won’t be published until after my deadline. But here I am reading it anyway. How? Well, sometimes all you have to do is ask the right person at the right time.

I’ll make sure to come back to this book once it’s officially out and tell you more about it. Until then, I’ll tell you that the more young writing I read the more I realise that we have a certain way of representing reality. A blunt and heartbreaking way sometimes.

And still, there are some opinionated people out there who write articles saying that ‘the young can’t know the deepest emotions’. This is why I’m doing a dissertation on young writing. As a youth worker, my job is to put young people in the spotlight and as a young person myself, I’m fighting against ageism.

P.S.

ageism, n.: Prejudice or discrimination on the grounds of a person's age; age discrimination, esp. against the elderly.

Sorry, Oxford English Dictionary, but there is just as much discrimination against youth as it is against the elderly. If not more.
