In my Mother’s Shoes

My shoes are clean these days because I seldom get out of the house and even then it’s just for essential shopping.
If someone would have told me a while ago that we ought to stay inside for so long, I wouldn't have believed that for the life of me. Yet, here we are, living in these times. As if I wouldn’t have lived enough, anyway… We adapt to everything, or so we should. After all, this is an interesting experience. There’s something to learn from this challenge.
At first, it was fairly difficult, more so because I like to go out, meet with people I know and see fresh faces. I tried reading… I couldn’t focus therefore I gave up. I’m looking forward to summer, warm weather, so I can sit outside in the yard on a comfy lounge chair, hear the birds… That’s when I’ll catch up, especially that I have some books that I really want to read. Until then I spend a lot of time on the phone. I talk to relatives and friends… I’m trying to encourage everyone. Everyone, including myself, needs encouragement, a kind word from the bottom of the heart. Makes the isolation pass easier.
On the other hand, I cook a lot. So much that I started missing food cooked by someone else. I can’t wait for restaurants, terraces to open again so I can sit at a table and wait to be served. I miss all the meals I don’t cook at home. Those days will come too, but only if we stay inside now, as much as it is necessary.
I can’t wait to go to London again. I like it there so much! I am so happy that Bea chose to go to the UK. It’s a double satisfaction: we get to see our child and spend time with her, plus we see many beautiful places and, especially, civil people.
Until then, we stay inside. You should do the same.
