Joan and I

I missed Joan. Joan is my electric guitar, named after Joan Jett - my idol and favourite musician. Joan Jett’s guitar is also white with a black ‘spot’ (pickguard) like my Joan. However, my Joan is special - her black ‘spot’ is sparkly and she is a Squier by Fender, not a Gibson. My acoustic guitar is also Fender and her name is Lita. Yes, I am a Fender fan.

Joan is less fragile than Lita, so that’s why she was the lucky guitar to come with me to the UK first. (Hopefully, Lita will come too at some point.) In the last few months, I didn’t play guitar too often. I think Bea the Writer and Bea the Youth Worker were so busy that Bea the Singer simply couldn't keep up with them. Now, stuck inside, I remembered the joy of playing guitar so I embraced my dear Joan once again.

My fingers hurt now. I haven’t really played guitar since December and now I played for two hours. I’m annoyed when so many months pass by without me playing guitar. Before I discovered writing and youth work as ways to change the world, my dream was to have a band called The Sisterhood. Maybe that dream will still come true someday, even though music is not my main focus anymore.
