Lord of the… what did I just read?

There’s a common belief that in literature protagonists often have the same profile as their target audience. That’s why I always thought that Lord of the Flies was a children/preteen book. Oh, how wrong I was!
It took me three days to finish it. I couldn’t stop. I got so emotionally involved in the tribe of children that I was almost screaming at them through the pages. The responsibility in me got activated, but all I could do was read without the possibility to intervene. In all my years of reading, I cannot remember one book that made me want to step in its world so desperately as this.
Lord of the Flies also makes you wonder what would you do in a similar scenario. Those kids look up to adults thinking they’d know what to do in their situation… but then you look at yourself and realize adults would probably be just as lost. The more adult I become, the more certain I am that adults are far from what society thinks they are.
