Today it’s 4 years since I dyed my hair for the first time. I saw this moment as a new beginning for who I was and marked it in my (physical) diary. Back then I didn’t have a blog and I was yet to discover writing, volunteering, youth work, or myself.

Dear Diary,

Today, 07.07.2016, I dyed my hair with red highlights.

This is the new ME. The me who’s gonna get a boyfriend. The me who’s going to have a relationship. The me who will help all the people that ask for help. The me who doesn’t trust every stranger in my life. The me that is going to meet all kinds of people from all kinds of places.

I am renewed. I am upgraded.

A new part of my life has begun now and I’m proud. I made it this far, I can’t wait to see how much further I’ll get. It’s beautiful to realise how long ago you started on your road and where you arrived. I am very happy with myself right now. I’m not an awful person!

(text from my teenage diary, with some minor changes)

Little did I know what was going to happen that summer. The picture is not from 4 years ago but from this day last year when I was reading Emma at the Youth Center in Baia Mare - a moment that summarises what happened in the last 4 years: writing, volunteering, youth work.
