Not all books are amazing

I love books, I love reading books, I love writing (about) books. But not all books were made equal and, unfortunately not all books are amazing… It’s always sad when I find a book that I’m not at all attracted to, but I try to push through as a case study. Sometimes I read to learn how I want to write, but sometimes I read to learn how I do not want to write.

So far, ‘The Devil’s Beat’ by Robert Edric is a case study I’m trying to push through… I haven’t read any other Edric books and it’s not excluded that others might really enjoy this book. After all, the theme is quite interesting - the devil allegedly appeared to four young women in rural England. However, the writing is very simplistic, the story goes back and forward in a strange way, the dialogue doesn’t seem natural, and the action seems just a little boring.

I’m still hoping that I will get caught in this book and it’s just a matter of time until it becomes more exciting. If that happens, I’ll let you know. I don’t mind changing my mind sometimes.
