I finished the LVL 2 Counselling course and I loved it, so I decided to do another one - this time on (children and) young people’s mental health. Once again, as a youth worker, I feel that these complementary skills are absolutely invaluable to me.

Today I finished reading the first workbook on this course. Sometime next week, I’ll do the first assessment (or at least the first half of it). So far I’m enjoying it a lot and gathering all this theory is quite important for me. Plus, these courses include exercises that encourage me to reflect on myself and my practice, automatically making me see the practicality of everything I learn.

The funny thing is that it took me so long to accept that I like to learn and that knowledge really is power for me as confidence and assertiveness, for example, are tightly linked to me having a strong theoretical base. Next up, I’m tempted by a Mental Health First Aid course and a few more specific ones on bullying, respectively self-harm & suicide prevention. My MA is also starting soon! EXCITING TIMES!
