The life of the city is full of different perspectives. Everyone you see has a story, but most times, you will never know anything about them. All you can do is make assumptions. I love turning those assumptions into stories, but this time my story leads to nothing more than more assumptions. ‘Emergency at work. Be back late.’ is my newest short story and it’s inspired by one of Jeanine’s Street Photos.

“Yesterday I wanted to experiment with some Street Photography, so I walked around for a bit on a very 'Romanian' street and I tried to pay attention to the details - you will see some of them on @hwlng.j on Instagram. I looked at the buildings and then I looked at the people walking past me. This is how the picture of the lady in a red dress came to be - the scene caught my attention immediately. Then everyone started interpreting it: one interpretation is Bea’s story but someone else saw it as a symbolic bridge between generations (the young and the old). I always try to take photos that can get people thinking, and that’s why I’m very proud of this one. I succeeded!” (Jeanine)
My story is vague. Very vague. You will make assumptions. You may think my character is having an affair because she’s just unhappy at home, but maybe she’s just feeling better at work, even though her boss is annoying and always talks about his problems. Maybe she is lying about the emergency, maybe she isn’t. She might enter the hotel, or she might keep walking without thinking of anything. Or maybe it’s nothing of all these. To be honest, I don’t know either. All I know is that a woman wearing a red dress was waiting at a red light in front of a hotel and a car passed very close in front of her.
