Video games & Employability - Your Journey through FIFA

At Collab, we launched our innovative coaching & mentoring programme for youth called ‘Your Journey through FIFA’. Maurice is super passionate about football & FIFA. During the Employment Surgery project we ran in June he met Anthony - a youngster from Lewisham who’s also super passionate about football & FIFA, who had challenges because he’s been diagnosed with autism at a very young age, but who wanted to get involved with us.

I have to admit, although I know nothing about football & FIFA, this is one of my favourite projects. Why? Because a few years ago I realised how amazing video games actually are. By playing, you learn a lot about communication, cooperation, teamwork, leadership, time management, attention to detail, navigation, and the list can go on for a while. And this project emphasises the personal development side by adding in the tailored employability support - it’s more than just CV writing, job applications, and interview prep, it’s about building confidence, setting (and achieving) goals, and being ready for work.
