Youth Workers and Youth Workers

It’s interesting. Some youth workers find it problematic that they have to spend time in front of a computer screen instead of doing actual youth work. And that is a very fair point. I’ve seen funding applications that seem never-ending and databases where you have to enter every little detail about your participants. Nightmares.

However, personally, I do not mind allocating some of my youth work time to apply for funding or write up a report. So I’m wondering… Is that because that’s the only reality that I’ve experienced? Is that because I’m still young and I’m at the beginning of this journey? Only time will tell. The only thing I know for sure is that every youth worker is different and that is the magic of it.
